How does a AC & DC LED indicator work & what is their circuit design

How does a LED indicator works. What is circuit design with different voltages i.e. 24VDC, 110VDC, 110VAC, 230VAC

Is capacitor & resistor are used in all type of voltages?

Just make it.  Get a ~2K resistor, a bi color 2 pin led.  Put the resistor in series with one of the led pins.  The other end of the resistor and the second led pin become your test probes.  Connect it one way it will light up in color A, reverse the polarity it will light up in color B and if it is AC it will light up in color C!  Colors A, B, C depending on the two colors of the led you get.  Total cost well under a buck.
